Don One 1
Tribute to Mrs. Moodie Concert
Club Amazura, Queens, NY
June 16, 2001
Sonia Moodie was the CEO of Don One
Recording Sounds in Brooklyn. For over 30 years, the Moodies have been a
fixture in the music business: Sonia started at age 16, under the tutelage of
her brother-in-law, Sir Clement "Coxsone" Dodd at his Downbeat Studio,
in Kingston, Jamaica; while Donald worked at Stranger Cole's Label. After
several years, they migrated to the United States and worked at Studio One
Records, which was owned by Sonia's sister, Norma Dodd. A few years later,
they started "Coxsone Music City" which was later destroyed by
fire. They then purchased a building of their own on Albemarle Avenue,
Brooklyn, New York, which now house’s the Don One studio.
The business has rapidly developed into a mastering, recording, producing, dub
plate and distribution studio where Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Wycleff Jean, the
late Dennis Brown, Sizzla, Luciano and a host of other reggae artists frequently
record.
